Rod Sivertsen, a retired educator from the Tahoma School District, was recently granted the Washington Activity Coordinators Association (WACA) Hall of Fame Award.

Sivertsen began his time in Tahoma in 1977, and he taught, led and coached in Tahoma until 1999. Over his 22 years with the district, Sivertsen taught science, biology, oceanography, basic math, algebra and geometry. He also created and taught the Tahoma High School Leadership Class. Sivertsen pioneered the Leadership Retreat–now known as the Bear Den Retreat–and the formal Homecoming show. Outside of the classroom, Sivertsen coached football, wrestling, track and volleyball.

Sivertsen served as Tahoma High School’s Activities Director and Athletics Director, and was honored as Washington Activities Director of the Year in 1993. Additionally, two high school students receive the Rod Sivertsen Scholarship each year.

The WACA Hall of Fame Award is given to individuals who have made significant, lasting impact on student activities in the state of Washington. Recipients of the award demonstrated leadership and dedication to providing high quality programs at the school, district and state level.
