to see if they offer the READY! for Kindergarten program.)

What is READY! for Kindergarten?

READY! for Kindergarten is a program for parents/caregivers that helps them prepare their child(ren) for a happy and successful school experience. The E-Learning workshops consist of three, self-paced online courses (about 60-minutes each). Each course has a different theme (language & literacy, math & reasoning, social & emotional). Parents receive a binder containing 26 age-appropriate targets for ALL age ranges (0-5), resources, materials (toys/games) and training on how to use the resources and materials to help their child(ren) work toward being ready for kindergarten.

NOTE: This program is optional and is not a required part of kindergarten registration. We typically advertise them together because they occur at the same time of the year.

What do the new E-Learning workshops/online courses entail?

Parents complete three, self-paced online courses (about 60-minute each) and learn how to use the resources and materials/toys provided to help their child meet the age-appropriate targets in the following areas (language and literacy, math and reasoning, social and emotional). Click here to view the workshop materials. Parents have an opportunity to attend (3) 30-minute live Q&A sessions. Each will take place a few weeks after families pick-up the materials and have an opportunity to complete each online course. The live sessions (hosted by Tahoma teachers familiar with the courses and materials) will be an opportunity for families to drop-in and ask questions as well as share ideas around what is working and discuss what may be challenging. This is an opportunity to connect with other families and to clarify how to best work with your child and the materials at home.

What is the cost?

This year, we are asking families for a materials fee of $100 which covers all three workshops. This is a $300 value! The support of the Maple Valley Rotary makes this possible. Checks or money orders should be made payable to the Tahoma School District and delivered to the Teaching and Learning Dept. at Central Services Center (same parking lot as Rock Creek Elementary-no cash accepted). There is no online payment option at this time and we cannot accept cash. Payment is due by Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 4:30PM.

Are scholarships available?

Yes! Full and partial scholarships are available to those who qualify. The support of the Maple Valley Rotary makes this possible. To qualify, parents must complete a Tahoma Free/Reduced Meals Application OR participate in one of the following programs: Food Bank services, Vine Maple Place services, or the ECEAP program at Lake Wilderness Elementary. Free/Reduced Meals applications are available online or at Central Services Center and must be submitted by Wednesday, November 23rd to the Teaching and Learning Dept. at Central Services Center (same parking lot as Rock Creek Elementary). If you qualify for a full scholarship, there is no cost to you. If you qualify for a reduced scholarship, your fee will be $50. Payment is due by Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 4:30PM.
