⬜ Food Drive Is Next Week!
Each year, our Tahoma Family steps up to help those in our community facing food insecurity by donating to our food drive, which goes directly to the Maple Valley Food Bank (MVFB). This year, our food drive will happen March 6–10 and donations will be accepted at all Tahoma schools. Please consider bringing in, or sending your child to school with, a few unopened, unexpired food items next week to help stock the shelves at MVFB. A list of recommended items can be found here on our Peachjar flyer. The school with the most donations will win the prestigious Golden Can trophy!
⬜ Tahoma Soccer Camp: 1st – 8th Graders
Tahoma High School’s varsity soccer players and staff are hosting a soccer camp on March 25, from 10 a.m. to noon for 1st – 8th graders. Registration is $50, and proceeds benefit the THS Boys Soccer Boosters. You can find the sign-up here, and can reach out to Kelly Harned ([email protected]) with any questions!
⬜ Curriculum Review In Process - Middle School Math and High School AP Human Geography
Stakeholder groups are currently reviewing resources in two curriculum areas: 6th-8th grade mathematics and high school AP Human Geography. As part of our review process, we make the top resources available for family and community viewing in our Teaching and Learning Department at Central Services, and also online (link here to online access). These resources are available now through April 1, 2023. Community members viewing the curriculum resources are invited to provide their input to the review teams.

⬜ “RACE To Be Human” Screening and Discussion Panel: March 9 at 6:30 PM
“RACE To Be Human” is a documentary film and series addressing the impact of race, racism, and gender identity on mental health. On March 9, 2023, the City of Maple Valley and Tahoma School District will be hosting a virtual film screening and a discussion with the filmmakers via Zoom. This screening is an opportunity for our Tahoma Family to hear personal stories and experiences, and ultimately strengthen the sense of belonging in our community.
The film will examine bias, racial and gender inequity, as well as their impact on those around us. It will include strategies and tips for how we can identify our biases and exemplify empathy toward people with lived experiences different from our own. Sign up for the event here!
⬜ Upcoming Teacher Job Fair
Are you interested in becoming a teacher in the Tahoma School District, or know of a teacher who would be perfect for Tahoma? We are hosting a teacher job fair* March 9 at Tahoma High School from 5–7 p.m. Interested applicants will have the chance to meet with principals and other district leadership, learn about teaching opportunities and more!
*Please note, this job fair is for certificated (teaching) positions only. Classified positions (bus drivers, nurses, paraeducators, office staff, etc.) can be found on the Tahoma job postings page.
⬜ High School & Beyond Night: For Middle and High School Families
Tahoma High School will be hosting its annual High School and Beyond Night on Tuesday, March 7, from 5:30–8:15 p.m. at Tahoma High School. There will be a pre-session hosted by admissions counselors from University of Washington at 5:30, a college and career fair from 6–7, and more seminars, including one about Running Start, from 7:10–8:15 pm. Get all the details here. Attendees may come for any/all parts of the event.
Students and parents are encouraged to attend together. Both middle and high school families are welcome to attend. Much of the information at this event is geared toward students who want to attend college or university after graduation. Students who are more interested in learning about careers and/or technical colleges should fill out this form so we can share information about a career showcase that will be held on April 27 at the ShoWare Center in Kent. We are planning a field trip for high school students to attend, and details will be available at a later date.
⬜ Seniors! Apply now for the TSF Scholarship & PTA/Community Scholarships
The Tahoma Schools Foundation (TSF) is an non-profit organization that raises funds and provides resources for Tahoma students. TSF is seeking to issue FOUR $5,000 scholarships for graduating seniors to use for higher education, trades or other professional programs! Applications for the TSF Foundation Scholarship (click here) opened today, Feb. 1, and will remain open through April 30, 2023.
Seniors can apply now for over 50 scholarships offered through the PTA/Community Scholarship program. There are scholarships for students planning to attend community, technical, and trade colleges, as well as 4-year colleges and universities. Students apply at https://www.goingmerry.com/. ⬜ No School for Teacher Workshop Day on Monday, March 20th.
Our students have a day off school while our teachers have their second Workshop Day of the school year. This is an opportunity for our teachers to dive deep into learning around incoming elementary math curriculum, trauma informed instructional practices, social and emotional learning, and how to support our English language learning (ELL) students.
