May 10, 2023 is National School Nurse Day! We want to take this moment to celebrate and show our gratitude to the amazing group of nurses in the Tahoma School District.

Each of our nine schools has a full-time licensed nurse who helps manage care for students with chronic conditions, creates individualized health plans and 504 plans, and ensures that all students are healthy, safe and ready to learn each day.

School nurses understand the link between health and learning, and they make such a positive difference for our students. They are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination and advocate for quality student-centered care.

Meet Tahoma's nurses:

Jennifer Lyons & Shawn Scorup, Tahoma School District

"What a bonus for our LWES family and wildcats that Nurse Shawn and Nurse Jennifer are here as often as they can be to support us. We are grateful for their district leadership and the systemic changes which encourage a safe and healthy environment for our Wildcats, their families and our staff! Thanks for your vision for a healthier Tahoma team!”

Melanie Ready, LWES Principal

Anna Pachalska-Sitarz & Melanie Brown, Tahoma High School

""

"School nurses serve such an important role here at THS, and we are grateful for their work and collaboration each day. When our kids feel sick, they respond. When our staff needs help, they respond. When parents have questions or needs, they respond. Our nurses respond with caring hearts and a smile to all they serve and for this we are grateful."

Judy Beliveau, THS Principal

Alicia Torgeson, Maple View Middle School

""

"This is only Nurse Alicia’s second year at MVMS, and she has quickly become a FAVORITE of students and staff. Her professional knowledge and expertise are top notch; however, what makes her unique is the “special skill” that you cannot teach- of knowing how to connect with middle school children of all types and make them feel like they belong. Our students definitely feel cared for when they see Nurse Alicia."

Bill Weis, MVMS Principal

Gina Holcomb, Summit Trail Middle School

""

"Nurse Gina Holcomb has been an invaluable resource for students, staff, and families at Summit Trail. Her influence and abilities stretches beyond the health room and simple first aid. She is routinely helping students with significant health concerns, complicated medical plans, and serious allergies. Through it all, she has a grace and warmth that is a perfect fit for our students. We love having Gina on our team!"

Sean Cassidy, STMS Principal

Tina Sehrt, Tahoma Elementary School

""

"A dozen years ago something really significant happened in my professional life…we hired Nurse Tina. When you imagine an ideal school nurse, every attribute you come up with shows up in Tina. She collaborates with staff and parents at any time for any reason whatsoever. Mostly though, she cares deeply for our students, often individually for over 70 students in a day. She is always seeking new ways to serve and always acts in ways that cause people to walk away feeling great about their time with her. Nurse Tina is a true gift to us and there is no possible way to appreciate her enough."

Jerry Gaston, TES Principal

Nicole Munsell, Shadow Lake Elementary School

""

"Nicole is amazing! She is an integral part of our school community. She is well trusted by staff, students, and families. The care she provides to students that have daily medical needs, injuries, and illness is competent and caring. Everyone knows that they are safe with her. There is no way that we could ensure that everyone is safe and healthy without her – and they have to be safe and healthy to be at school! Nicole takes her role very seriously and provides a level of care that is unmatched."

Kellie Christiansen, SLES Principal

Jessica Walcott, Rock Creek Elementary School

""

"Jessica is very diligent about the details involving student care both physically and mentally. She is always calm and is resourceful in coming to positive outcomes, regardless of the situation. Students and staff feel her care!"

Chris Thomas, RCES Principal

Kim Dwyer, Randi Warunek & Brittany Bell-Reed, Lake Wilderness Elementary School

"What a wonderful addition to our staff family. Nurse Kim truly has the well-being of our Wildcats at the heart of her work. She focuses on the whole child and is consistently seen as a safe person for our students who need her most! 💙💚 Thank you for taking care of us Nurse Kim!"

Melanie Ready, LWES Principal

"Nurse Randi and Nurse Brittany are closest to our students who need their expertise to keep them healthy and thriving. Their compassion for care is unmatched and we all benefit from their love of students and presence here at LWES. Thank you!"

Melanie Ready, LWES Principal

Jana Heller, Glacier Park Elementary School

""

"Jana Heller is an incredible asset to Glacier Park. Her care, compassion, and can-do attitude shine through in every interaction anyone has with her. I know that if there is ever a medical emergency, our students are in incredible hands."

Shelly Gaston, GPES Principal

Chelsi Allard, Cedar River Elementary School

""

"At Cedar River, Nurse Chelsi is a beloved nurturer, caretaker, and comforter to all our Otters. Regardless of the reason for their visit, students receive quality care and consolation from Nurse Chelsi’s tender spirit. She is a gem and is well-loved by students, staff, and parents in our learning community. She is a symbol of HOPE that promotes the bright future we convey to all students."
