Community members, district staff and fellow board members thanked School Board President Katrina Montgomery for her service to Tahoma. Montgomery served her last day on the board this week.

Superintendent Mike Hanson recalled meeting Montgomery when she was leading the Watch D.O.G.S. program at Glacier Park Elementary. “All along the way, it’s always been about ‘What more could you do for kids?’” Hanson said. “You’re pretty amazing, Katrina. Thank you for all you’ve done.”

Maple Valley Mayor Sean P. Kelly and the members of the City Council attended the meeting to read a proclamation in Montgomery’s honor, declaring June 29, 2021 to be “Katrina Montgomery Day.”

“While on the School Board, she has demonstrated the utmost care and devotion for Tahoma’s students, staff members and community… We value those who create and maintain a safe and secure learning environment for Tahoma students,” the proclamation says. For the full text, click here:

Each of the School Board members also thanked Montgomery for her service. “I’m just so thankful for your role in our community,” Director Pete Miler said. “I just love your heart.”

“From the bottom of my heart, I’ll just say thank you,” Montgomery said during a staff gathering recently. “Tahoma is my family. I’m going to miss you all. I’m going to bring with me everything that I learned from here.”
