Tahoma High School recently wrapped up their winter seasons, which were full of achievements and state championship appearances from a number of teams and individuals. Here’s a quick recap:
Girls and Boys Basketball
Both the Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball teams made Tahoma High School history this year. After two stellar seasons, both teams made it to the state championship. It’s the first time in our district’s history that both programs have qualified for state in the same season!

The Girls team finished the season with a 24-4 overall record, placing 3rd in the state in the 4A division. This year marks the first time in Tahoma history that the Lady Bears Basketball program placed in a state championship. This year’s seniors are Hope Hassman (#2), Lauryn Frederickson (#10), Abigail Knutson (#13), Angie Cavanaugh (#22), and Amelie Sitterud (#25).

The Boys team finished their season strong, making it to the Top 12 round of the state championship at the Tacoma Dome. They finished with an overall record of 19-7, and a conference record of 12-1. This year’s seniors are Logan Sherles (#1), Kevin Williams (#3), Harry Torres (#10), Tom Sullivan (#12), Treyson Ikeomu (#14), and Logan McGough (#32).
Boys and Girls Wrestling

The Tahoma Wrestling teams had stellar seasons. The Boys team placed 4th at the state championship and there were 8 individual placers. Senior Girls Wrestler, Lafediya Eldridge, has earned a wrestling scholarship to Dickinson State University. Earlier in the season, the 2012 Boys Wrestling State Champion Team was inducted into the Tahoma Wrestling Hall of Fame (video)!
Cheer

Tahoma Bears Cheer made their way to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando this February for the National High School Cheerleading Competition (NHSCC). The team earned their highest score ever for their gameday routine, and fell just shy of advancing in the competition. The team also competed for their traditional performance. After Nationals, the team was on the sideline cheering on our other student-athletes for postseason play, and traveled to the Tacoma Dome for state basketball.
Boys Swim & Dive

The Boys Swim & Dive team also made school history this year, placing second overall at the District meet, qualifying six individuals and three relays for the state championship. This second-place win was the highest placement for the Boys Swim & Dive team in school history!
Girls Gymnastics

Tahoma’s Varsity Gymnastics team had 6 sub-district league competitors qualify for the District Championships this year, where the girls showcased the hard work they put in this season. One gymnast, Maile Pineda, qualified for State as an All-Around Individual!
A huge congratulations to all our winter student-athletes on remarkable seasons. We’re already excited to see our returning competitors build on their success next year. As we look ahead toward the rest of this school year, we wish all our spring student-athletes the best of luck in their seasons. Go Bears!
