PTSA and PTO Groups

Tahoma parent-teacher groups raise money to provide snacks for students who don't get enough food to eat at home. They fund field trips and capital improvement projects such as playground equipment replacement. Parents, teachers and community members in these groups buy school supplies to fill funding gaps. They host, plan and volunteer at science fairs and carnivals.

Our parent-teacher groups provide many vital services for our students and families. And they can't do any of those things without members and volunteers.

"The PTAs have been integral to student and school success as valuable, thoughtful partners with teachers to support students," said Mary Jane Glaser, school board member and a past PTA president "Through PTA, parents and teachers collaborate to provide enhancements to the normal school experience The family nights, walk/run experiences, art docent programs, scholarship programs and many other student-centered programs are offered to our students and school communities because of the PTAs."

All parents are encouraged to join, attend informational meetings and volunteer. Parent support is crucial, Glaser said "The more parents who are involved, the better PTAs know that parents, themselves, are experiencing competing demands, as well There are a variety of volunteer jobs available to fit inpidual schedules," she added.
