Incoming Kindergarteners

We can't wait to see your Kindergartener on the first day of school! This page is for incoming Kindergarten families whose students have already enrolled and will be joining our classrooms in the upcoming school year. Kindergarten Assessment

Students will attend a 30-minute session where they will complete tasks with Tahoma staff in order to show their kindergarten readiness skills. Some tasks include identifying letters, identifying rhyming words and counting as high as you can. The information gathered is one snapshot of each child’s skills and will be used by teachers to help inform their instruction to start the school year. 

Please Note: This assessment is for students who did not attend the kindergarten event/assessment at their school in May. Also, if your child attended Lake Wilderness preschool and has an IEP, you do not need to attend this assessment. We have already received information from their teacher.

Family Connections

Family Connection meetings are a component of WaKIDS. The purpose of these meetings is to build relationships and ease anxiety for parents and students. As a part of the state-funded, full-day kindergarten program, families will be contacted in August to meet individually with their child’s teacher. These meetings offer families an opportunity to get to know the teacher, share information about their child and ask questions. It provides teachers the opportunity to understand the student as a whole person, learn about the students’ interests and culture and learn about the family, supporting a smooth start to school.
