Asst. Superintendents Davis and Krause Retiring; District Leadership Restructuring for Cost Efficiency

Tahoma School District’s (TSD) Assistant Superintendent of Student Experiences, Tony Davis, and Assistant Superintendent of Operations & Resources, Tracy Krause, have announced their retirements, both effective June 30, 2025. Davis plans to retire after 36 years in public education, including 33 with TSD. Krause has served 32 years as a public educator, spending his entire career at TSD.

“Tony and Tracy have dedicated their careers to the success and well-being of Tahoma’s students and families, and they’ll be missed dearly in our district,” said Superintendent Ginger Callison. “Each of them has had a significant impact on a countless number of students during their years in Tahoma, and this reflects the dedication they’ve brought to Tahoma for decades. We're excited to celebrate their many accomplishments and contributions to our district and community in the coming months, and excited for them to be able to enjoy their well-deserved retirements and time with family.”

Davis started at Tahoma High School (THS) in 1989 as an assistant football coach. After a three-year stint with Renton School District, he returned to Tahoma in 1994 to take on the head football coaching role, and two years later became the athletic director. For 28 years, Davis led the Bears football program, stepping away in 2021. He transitioned to the district office in 2022 as the Director of Equity, and his role expanded to Asst. Superintendent in 2023. Davis played a pivotal role in the creation and adoption of the district’s first Inclusion, Diversity and Equity policy in 2022. In his final year, Davis has co-led the district’s initiative to improve student attendance, prioritizing developing positive relationships with students and their families.

“I can’t imagine a more fulfilling career than the one I’ve been blessed with,” Davis said. “I’ve seen thousands of families’ unique experiences, heard their challenges, celebrated their achievements, and tried to play a small role in their success. I’ve watched our community grow, evolve, and persevere over three decades. I’m honored to have been part of Tahoma’s story.”

Krause started his educator journey as a paraeducator in 1993 before becoming a full-time physical education teacher. He was named the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2008, and he was the NFL Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2012. Krause was also instrumental in implementing Outdoor Academy at THS– a course that integrates science, language arts, and physical education– and spearheaded the installation of a full-size rock climbing wall at the high school. He became Asst. Director of Human Resources in 2021, and transitioned to Asst. Superintendent in 2023.

“Tahoma has been home for our family for a long time, and I’m truly grateful for my experiences with the district,” Krause said. “Our community looks a lot different than it did 30 years ago– in the best ways. Throughout that growth, we’ve maintained a district that prioritizes taking care of students, families, and educators. That unwavering commitment to helping people learn and grow has kept our family here all these years.”

With Davis’ and Krause’s retirements, the central office administrative team  is restructuring this summer to reprioritize resource allocation. The assistant superintendent positions will not be rehired. Additionally, the Director of Operations role, currently held by Kyle Hood, will be dissolved on June 30. The responsibilities held by that position– including support for technology, safety & security, grounds/custodial/maintenance, print shop, nutrition services, and Extended Enrichment (EEP) – will be redistributed among the district leadership team, effective July 1. This plan is still in development at this time.

“We’re thankful for Kyle’s strong contributions in this role,” Supt. Callison said. “We recognize the importance of the work being done by everyone in these departments to make operations a successful component of our organization.

“After many conversations with our district staff, community members, and families over the past several months, our district administrative team reflected on what we will need to do  in the coming years to progress on literacy growth, math growth, improved attendance, and increased employee satisfaction, our four district goals.  We recognized that in order to provide additional support for our schools and departments and remain fiscally responsible, we needed to reduce spending on our central office administrative team. While we will likely add in some new central office support based on emerging student and staff needs, the work carried out by the Assistant Superintendents and Director of Operations positions will be redistributed among the remaining central office administrators.”
