District-Wide Earthquake Drill

This morning, October 8th, we successfully completed a district-wide earthquake drill at all 11 district buildings (our 9 schools buildings, Transportation and the district office).

Tahoma School District conducted this annual drill to review and practice:

  1. Drop, Cover, and Hold On: All students and staff immediately practiced this essential procedure.
  2. Full Evacuation: Following the initial shaking response, every building then conducted a full evacuation to designated safe assembly areas.
  3. Communication Protocols: Our staff successfully completed our emergency protocols by testing district-wide communication via radio, ensuring seamless coordination between sites and central administration.

This thorough drill ensures  our school community knows the proper, multi-step response to keep everyone safe when an earthquake strikes. We appreciate the dedication of our students, staff, and local partners, including the City of Maple Valley emergency management department, King County Sheriff’s office and MV Police Department, to practicing these vital safety measures.

We encourage you to discuss your family's earthquake preparedness with your loved ones at home as well! Each year in October, the Great Shake Out takes place across the nation. For more information and resources on the Great Shake Out here in Washington, please visit shakeout.org/washington
