Secondary Nomination Process

Procedures for identification of a student for entrance into the highly capable programs:

Students presently in grades 6-11 can be nominated by a teacher, parent, student or community member. The student and parents will complete this nomination/application for including a short essay explaining what they hope the highly capable designation will bring to their education experience and describe what qualifies the student as highly capable in the Tahoma School District. The district will compile the historical data on the student including classroom based assessments and state standardized testing to determine if the student is in the top 5% of the grade level. This information will be brought to the multi-disciplinary selection committee that makes the decision on qualification into the program.
