Emergency Information

Severe weather, power outages, or security concerns can create conditions that require school closures, schedule delays or limited transportation service. Tahoma School District encourages families to be prepared by having emergency supplies and an emergency plan in place. We also recommend that you ensure your emergency contact information is current in the Skyward Family Access system. Contact your school’s registrar to update information.

If there are no messages sent by our District,
schools are open on normal schedules

The district will do all it can to communicate vital information to parents and students during emergencies. The district will notify families of any schedule changes.

Information Resources

  • Direct Communication - All staff and families will receive a text and email about school delays and closures via ParentSquare.
  • District Website - On-screen alert will appear on all pages.
  • Social Media - Facebook and Instagram
  • News Outlets and Other Media - Updates sent via FlashAlert.net

Potential announcements may say:

  • Schools Closed” - All campuses are closed for that day. No transportation. (A make-up day will be needed later.)
  • Two-hour Late Start"  - Schools will begin two hours late. No AM Preschool. No out-of-district transportation. Buses will run two hours later than their regular schedule in the morning, then schools will dismiss at the usual time in the afternoon.
    • Important Update:  If there is a Two-Hour Late Start on a Friday, schools will be dismissed at regular release times, similar to Mondays thru Thursdays - (instead of the Friday early-release schedule).
  • Schools Open with Limited Transportation” - Bus service on some routes may be limited due to challenging road conditions. Limited Transportation (also referred to as "Snow or Inclement Weather Routes") will apply all day. Students will be delivered after school to the same location as their morning pick-up.

SNOW ROUTES: The district covers nearly 60 square miles, stretching across Maple Valley, Ravensdale, Hobart, and portions of Black Diamond, Covington, and Renton. Weather can impact neighborhoods across our district very differently. Our area experiences high winds, flooding, and snow/ice that can impact some parts of the district more than others.

NOTE: Not every emergency situation can be anticipated. Occasionally, after a decision about the status of school is made early in the morning, weather conditions that impact the safe transportation of students may quickly change and merit an adjustment. Families are encouraged to double-check the communication resources above just before leaving home for school, in case conditions have worsened. Parents/guardians should also develop an emergency plan with their children, in the event of an early closure, and make sure their school has their accurate contact information.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

For information during an emergency, please monitor ParentSquare, FlashAlert, our district website, your email inbox, district social media channels or local news outlets.
