2026 Replacement Levies Information

Two Replacement Levies on the February 10, 2026 Ballot

Tahoma School District local levies provide funding for programs, services, technology and staff that are not fully covered by state and federal funding.

Our current levies (approved  by voters in 2024), will expire in 2026.  We're asking the community to consider renewing two levies in the February 10, 2026 Special Election, which would sustain funding for the next four years (2027-2030).

While the state pays for "basic education", many of the programs and services Tahoma students have access to are considered beyond the basics. Our Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy supports things such as, art, music, athletics, extracurriculars, field trips, electives and career & college readiness. It also provides key staff such as coaches, advisors, security and other specialized staff, as well as operational costs. Our Technology Capital Projects (Tech) Levy provides our district's technology needs including hardware, tech staff, software, training and other tech tools for student accessibility.

Funding Pie Chart

State (and federal) funds do not fully cover the actual cost of operating a school district in Washington. In fact, local funding makes up 21% of Tahoma's operating budget.  The majority of our local funding includes our voter-approved levies, making up 16% of our budget. The other 5% comes from grants and other local funding.

In February, our community will vote on replacing our expiring levies, which if approved, will maintain existing funding. As voters, you're approving a total levy amount. That levy amount is broken down to an estimated tax rate per $1000 of assessed value.  Our combined school tax rate for the EP&O and Tech levies is estimated to be $2.76 for the 4 year duration of these levies.  Tahoma families expect their children to receive quality education, enjoy rich learning opportunities and activities, be surrounded by staff who care for them as individuals, and have up to date and reliable technology for their students. Local levy funding is what makes this possible.
