Elementary boundary review committee begins work
A committee of 10 volunteers will begin working to create recommendations for changing elementary school attendance areas to balance enrollment in Tahoma's four elementary schools.
The boundary review committee was chosen by lottery from 51 applicants. Committee members begin work on Thursday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room at Central Services Center. Public meetings to air the committee's boundary change recommendations will be held in mid-April. Dates and times will be announced here prior to the meetings. The committee members are: Melissa Greenstein, Laura Gindroz, Lynette Hynden, Brian McGough, Lorie Thomas, Karrie LaBree, Julie DeBolt, Rick Downer, Don Everard and Jill Saldivar.
District honors National Board Certified teachers
Tahoma’s 25 nationally certified teachers and counselors were honored March 1 at a special dinner held at Tahoma High School. These professionals completed a rigorous process to review and improve their teaching skills as part of the certification process. They are: Allison Agnew, Kimberly Allison, Darren Collins, Kristin Edlund, Val Munro, Jennifer Gosnell, Jeana Haag, Rick Haag, Erika Hanson, Mike Hanson, Lindsey Hatch, Jeff Heil, Kay Hoffman, Tracy Krause, Lara Lindersmith, Ken Loomis, Gale Lundberg, Lorrie McMahon, Pauline Seger, Shawn Sheller, Ethan Smith, Jamie Vollrath, Bill Weis, Dave Wright and Heidi Young
Kindergarten registration begins March 15
Parents who want to enroll children in kindergarten for the 2010-2011 school year may do so during registration week, March 15-19, at all Tahoma elementary schools. Applications also will be taken for all-day kindergarten, which is a tuition-based program. All-day kindergarten placement will be done by lottery on March 31. Parents are asked to bring their child's birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency (a utility bill, home purchase or rental agreement, etc.) when they register their child. If you are not certain which elementary school attendance are you reside in, please consult this map or call the Transportation Dept. at 425-413-3220.
Classified School Employees Week is March 8-12
The people who support students and teachers are being honored this week. Please take a moment to thank the paraeducators, office staff, bus drivers, custodians, maintenance workers, food service workers, mechanics, technicians, health care staff, and other specialized non-teaching staff that contribute to providing a high quality education for Tahoma students.
Tahoma music faculty concert scheduled for March 19
The Mary Lou Harting Memorial Concert , featuring the amazing talents of the Tahoma School District’s music faculty, is set for Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the Tahoma Middle School Theatre, 24425 SE 216th St., Maple Valley, 98038. Admission is a suggested $5 donation to the Mary Lou Harting Scholarship fund, which is awarded to graduating Tahoma High School seniors in May. Donations to the Mary Lou Harting scholarship fund can also be mailed to the Maple Valley Creative Arts Council, 23220 Maple Valley Hwy. SE, Suite 15, Maple Valley, WA 98038.
