Special Education committee seeks parent volunteers
The Tahoma School District Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) is seeking applicants for parent representatives. The committee is a collaboration of Tahoma School District staff and parents who have students with special needs. For details, click here.
School board seeks alternatives to late-arrival plan
A proposal to begin school 90 minutes later than usual on Monday mornings so that there would be time for regular professional staff development is on hold, pending a look at other options.
The Tahoma School Board asked for alternative plans to provide staff development time, following discussion at its April 24 meeting.
The board reviewed comments from parents, students and staff as well as comments made at the meeting by teachers regarding the proposed Monday late-arrival schedule. Alternatives will be brought to the board in May.
District starts discussion to build new high school
Tahoma Superintendent Mike Maryanski has begun discussions with King County and the City of Maple Valley that could lead to acquisition of a school construction site in the area known as the Donut Hole, where the current Elk Run Golf Course and a county gravel mine and road shop now exist. Tahoma Junior High wins Green Ribbon Schools award
Tahoma Junior High School is one of 66 public schools in the nation to receive the first-ever Green Ribbon Schools award from the U.S. Department of Education. The junior high is being recognized for its emphasis on environmental sustainability and overall school health and safety, both in its curriculum and its daily operation. For details, click here.
